About The Historic Stanley Hotel

Known as America’s #1 most haunted property and famous for being the inspiration for Steven King’s The Shining, the historic and haunted Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado sets their eerie expectations high. The hotel is over 100 years old, which explains why it’s so famous for paranormal activity.

Noteworthy paranormal spots are the fourth floor of the hotel and Room 217, where Stephen King stayed. Rumor has it that he awoke to a nightmare about his son being chased down the hallway, and when he went out to have a cigarette to calm down, he already had the plot for The Shining planned. If you want to stay in room 217, just know that it’s usually booked about a year in advance.

Visiting The Stanley Hotel

See if you can find the key for room 217! Hint: it’s backwards. (Thank you to my sister and her husband for these photos)

The Stanley Hotel is a gorgeous and historic property surrounded by the Rocky Mountains. There are plenty of ways to visit, even if you don’t want to spend the night. The most popular way to visit are the daily tours. If you’re looking for something spooky, definitely try the Historic Stanley Night Tour

  • The Historic Stanley Night Tour is a 60 minute walking tour that not only immerses you in the history of the old building, but might also introduce you to some spooky souls that have never left. This is the perfect tour for anyone who loves the spooky and supernatural, especially during Halloween.
  • The Historic Stanley Day Tour is a 60 minute walking tour that immerses you in the history of the building. This is a great tour for anyone who loves history and architecture.
  • The Historic Stanley Family Friends Tour is a 60 minute walking tour perfect for families with children 8 or under. It’s an interactive I Spy game that is fun for everyone.

If you’re more interested in staying at the Stanley Hotel, and you want an eerie experience, try staying in one of the spectral rooms on the fourth floor. The fourth floor used to be an attic, and it’s rare that someone stays on the fourth floor and doesn’t hear any ghostly sounds during the night.

Onto the CBD Spider Web Brownies

These brownies are amazingly chewy and fudgy, and the fresh whipped cream cheese raspberry topping is the perfect complement. Decorate with a chocolate spider web, and you’ve got the perfect Halloween treat. The Very Berry flavored Receptra Naturals Serious Wellness CBD adds both relaxation and a tasty flavor to these brownies. You can even pretend they’re healthy with that combo of CBD and fresh berries.

My friends at Receptra Naturals sent me some samples of their CBD oil, and I thought it would be absolutely perfect for these spooky Spider Web brownies. I know that CBD can seem intimidating to use, but I want you to know that it really is so simple! The only rule is really just to not cook it. If you cook CBD then it can lose its strength, so that’s why I put the Receptra Naturals CBD oil in my berry topping.

Tips & Tricks for the Tastiest Spider Web Halloween Brownie Recipe

Although you can make brownies from a box, these Halloween brownies are even better made from scratch! When I tell you these are the fudgiest, chewiest brownies, I mean it. Absolutely better than box mix! But listen, I understand people are short on time, so box brownies can definitely be substituted.

  • Be patient when the brownies come out of the oven. Do not try to dump them out 10 minutes after they’ve been removed. Take it from me, they will break into multiple pieces if you turn them out too soon.
  • Make sure you pipe the spider web on carefully and steadily. If not, you’ll have a squiggly spider web, so unless you’re going with that look, make sure you keep it steady.
  • You don’t need to add in the Receptra Naturals CBD oil, especially if you have a family event, but it definitely adds a tasty berry flavor to the icing, and is a great addition if you’re having an adults only Halloween party.

How to Take Your Halloween Brownie Game to the Next Level

Spider Web Brownies
  • I added semi sweet and white chocolate chips to my batter, but get creative with your mix ins! Toffee bits, crushed oreos, or orange colored chocolate chips would be perfect for your Halloween treat!
  • Dye your icing red or orange to give stronger Halloween vibes to your brownies.
  • To make the spider web, make a spiral around the cake with chocolate icing. Then drag a toothpick from the center outwards to make the web design.
  • Another fun option for your Halloween brownies is to decorate your web with plastic spiders or make edible spiders with oreos and black licorice.

Ingredients

Brownies

  • cup sugar
  • 5 tbsp butter
  • 2 large eggs + 1 yolk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • cup vegetable oil
  • ½ cup all purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp corn starch
  • ½ tsp instant espresso powder (optional)
  • pinch of salt
  • ½ cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup white chocolate chips

Frosting

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup finely chopped berries of your choice I used strawberries.
  • 25-30 drops CBD oil (I used Very Berry flavored Receptra Naturals CBD for Wellness)
  • 2-4 tbsp semi sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Brownies

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Spray a 9 inch round pan with cooking spray and line the bottom with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • In large microwave safe bowl, add butter and sugar. Microwave about one minute, until butter is melted. Mix in eggs, oil and vanilla. Combine until light and fluffy.
  • In a separate bowl whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, corn starch, espresso powder and salt. Slowly pour into the liquid mixture and mix until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
  • Spread into your prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes. Some moist crumbs should be on the toothpick when removed. Do not overbake. Cool completely before icing.

Frosting

  • Combine cream cheese, butter, and vanilla and mix until fluffy.
  • Add in the powdered sugar, and mix until combined. Gently stir in the berries until just combined. Add the CBD oil and stir.
  • For the spider web, melt the chocolate in the microwave for 30 second intervals, stirring in between. Once completely melted, carefully spoon into a piping bag (or plastic baggie as I like to use) and cut a very small tip. Pipe on top of frosting in a spiral. Using a toothpick, start at the center and drag outwards in sections until you are satisfied with the spider web!

  1. We love going to haunted places! Going to this hotel would be fantastic especially if we could stay on that fourth floor!
